Students at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities can take this certifiable module as part of their elective subjects. Several institutes feature the module as a recommendation in their own curricula, while others have included specific courses as mandatory. Upon completion of the required courses, students receive an official certificate issued by the university of Graz to document their additional qualification.

Course contents

  • Aspects of the structural, but also typographic design of texts,
  • specific characteristics of electronic texts,
  • methods for their description, processing, and analysis as well as
  • related digital editing and representation techniques

This supplementary subject provides basic knowledge for the application of the above technologies and methods in the various disciplines of humanities. 

 

Objectives

Students gain insight into the basics and methods of

  • Modeling of (research) data in the humanities,
  • IT-supported forms of representation of data and sources,
  • XML-based technologies for data analysis, and
  • Historical and social implications of electronic media.

 

Participation requirements

This elective subject is open to all students in the humanities. Attendance of the lecture Digitale Geisteswissenschaften in the faculty-wide basic module is advantageous.

Frequency of the course

The supplementary subject Informationsmodellierung can be completed within one academic year.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the supplemental subject Informationsmodellierung, students will receive a certificate of completion indicating this additional qualification. Please contact the center’s office.

Structure

Module A must be completed by all students. From modules B and C, students can freely select courses to the extent of 12 ECTS credits, whereby at least one course from each module must be chosen. A total of 24 ECTS credits are awarded for this supplementary subject.

The recognition of courses from other fields of study that are suitable in terms of content is possible.
